What is hygiene? Conditions or practices conducive to maintaining health and preventing disease, especially through cleanliness.
What is self care? Self Care is any activity that you do voluntarily which helps you maintain your physical, mental or emotional health. It can help you feel healthy, relaxed and ready to take on your work and responsibilities.
What is oral care? Good oral care (dental care) is important to maintaining healthy teeth, gums and tongue. Oral problems, including bad breath, dry mouth, canker/cold sores and tooth decay are all treatable with proper diagnosis and care.
What is sweat? Moisture coming through the pores of the skin, typically as a reaction to heat, physical exertion, fever or fear (aka perspiration). Using aluminum-based antiperspirants, bathing daily and wearing clothing made of natural materials that allow skin to breathe may help reduce sweating. Excessive sweating can happen during heavy exercise, being in a hot environment (like spending time in a sauna). You can stop sweating by: avoiding spicy foods and caffeine, using washcloths and soap then applying deodorant.
If you want to minimize risk of infection and enhance overall health, follow these basic personal hygiene habits:
Bathe regularly (2xs daily & wash your hair ATLEAST once a week).
Wash your body and hair often.
Trim your nails.
Brush & floss teeth along with using mouthwash.
Wash your hands.
Sleep for 7+ hours.
A benefit of good hygiene is having better health. Keeping your body clean helps prevent illness and infection from bacteria or viruses. Example: The simple act of washing your hands regularly is an effective way to keep germs from spreading.
